Bass Mass is a baile funk sound system (also called a paredão or equipe de som in Portuguese), a stack of speakers covered with reflective glass that mimics the new buildings in the neighborhood. The soundtrack for the artwork is composed by Caccuri with Brazilian music producer Mulú.
Vivian Caccuri first had the idea of building a sound system covered in façade glass when Rio de Janeiro was taken over by constructions of the 2016 Olympics. The city was rapidly changing with the influence of real-estate power. Many of those transformations happened right in front of her: the neighborhood where her studio is located changed completely. The picture on the left shows the first version of the sound system with new buildings on the background.
